A Long Time Coming

Well, as anyone who knows me slightly well will know, decorating is sooooo not my thing. My whole life I have had very little desire to make our house a home, give it a relaxed, welcoming feel, etc.

Which is fine until you have people over and realize that your house really isn't welcoming. Then you feel badly for them because they have to stare at bare walls and a complete lack of style for the duration of their visit. Then they leave and you breathe a huge sigh of relief (not that they've left, just that you don't have to stress anymore because you're sure they were looking around thinking, "DO something with this place. Give it even just a dash of character.). Then you go on with your life and try to pretend that never happened. And every now and again you do feel badly for your family that when they bring people over their home is not really a place they can be proud of. Then you shove that thought far back in the recesses of your mind as quickly as it came and go on with life.

That's h0w I've operated for as long as I can remember. Then I read this book and the author emphasizes that as women part of our role is to make our home welcoming for our family and ourselves. Hmmm... oops. So I started to pray about it regularly, just telling God I have no clue how to do this and how overwhelming it was for me, but that I really did want to learn how to make our house a home (yes, I know it's about much more than decorating, but I had to focus on decorating.). And amazingly (yes, I am still amazed when I pray and He actually answers my prayers :)) ideas started popping in my head. I began to get a "vision" for our living room--a color scheme started falling into place and visions of furniture and accessories started popping in my head.

So I determined that my "job" right now is to decorate our home. I decided to dedicate three or four hours a week to shopping for stuff for our living room (which, for a shop-a-phobic like me is a HUGE amount of time, lol!). Little by little things are falling into place. I am still shopping for a few pieces, but I was able to see this "vision" come to life. I bought this big mirror and shelf, and my little vision was to put candles on the shelf so that the light would reflect off the mirror. I finally got to do that today. So I took a picture and I'm sharing it with you all. It's just a little thing, but it represents so much more for me.

P.S. The wall color didn't come out right, so just ignore that part of the photo, okay?! :) And you can also ignore me in the picture :)

Missing You

We've been having internet problems since last Friday evening. It goes on and off sporadically. Someone should be coming today to fix it (and of course it's working perfectly right now, lol!). I don't usually blog in the middle of the day (too much house stuff to do) , but I gotta grab the internet while I can. I'm desperate! It has actually startled me to realize how connected I am to all of you--even you, Ronalyn, and I have never met you. I have so missed reading blogs, commenting on them, and posting. I have really felt disconnected to you all (yeah, I'm a "recovered hick" but I can't erase that expression from my vocabulary--however, I don't say, "y'all." I do draw the line there. Sorry if I'm offending anyone--as in my sister and brother-in-law, but I don't consider you guys hicks.) . So I hope the person who comes to repair the internet issue can perform a miracle so I don't have to miss you anymore :)

A Rare Moment Captured on Film

No, it's not a rare moment that my kids brush their teeth (well, it would be if left up to them!). I walked into the bathroom tonight to see both my kids in the bathroom brushing their teeth ... and this is the rare moment--they actually got along! I had to run and get my camera to document this rare moment of parental bliss. And now I'm sharing it with you. Now isn't your day more complete?!

Another Layout

Credits here . Can you tell how I've been spending my free time :) I had the most fun taking these pictures! I just asked Ashley to tell me a story (she is quite the storyteller and quite the drama queen--she takes after her aunt, lol!) . As she was telling her GREAT story, I just used the "continuous" mode in the fancy, shmancy camera and shot away. Went to Seal Beach today with Teena . So fun and relaxing. Why don't I have pictures to share? Ummm, I kind of forgot the CF card (to store the pictures on) at home. That's only the second time in less than a week that I've done that. Aren't you proud of me?! In case any of you were wondering, yes, I am a total "spaz." :)
