So Grateful

Every now and again it hits me how absolutely blessed I am, and I'm just kind of overwhelmed. These are just some of the things I'm so grateful for--not necessarily in this order :)
  • food on the table at every meal
  • a supportive husband
  • kids who love me unconditionally and who bring me so much joy
  • a washer and dryer so I don't have to look all over the place for quarters (and worry about leaving my laundry in the dryer overnight).
  • an a/c unit (even if it's just a wall unit)
  • a reliable car with air conditioning (that's a HUGE one!)
  • God and my salvation (probably should have been first on the list ... oops!)
  • a home (tiny as it is, I don't even care--I'm just so grateful we have one)
  • women friends who like me just the way I am and who bring me such a sense of satisfaction and of being understood (you know who you are ... and thank you!)
  • belonging to a church family
  • our camera (love having a camera! What would life be without one??)
  • our computer (and all the goodies that are on it, especially the internet and my Photoshop Elements)
  • that I live in Southern California (the great climate, the beach, the mountains, the desert--it's all here)
  • great in-laws (truly such generous, kind-hearted people--must be the Filipino in them!)
  • that God has opened my eyes in these past few years and taught me to truly appreciate His gift of life ... to live life to its fullest every day (and lest I forget, he gave me a daughter who just naturally lives life to its fullest, so I get a constant reminder of what it looks like to soak up all that life has to offer!)

... and the list could go on and on, but I won't bore you any more, lol!

please keep boring us with your list. It is a great one. I love that you have Ashley and that she is a natural reminder to you to live it up. She is a good girl and quite vibrant.

Carmela, you are gift to those around you too. While you think that you have supportive friends, your friends are thanking God for you. Your blog reminds me of that.

And since we are so into the friendship thing right now...do you think you could teach me to use a sewing machine?

Things that make me smile and sometimes laugh: my family Starbucks with friends reading blogs :) parking the car in the driveway of our "new" house, lol! Oh, I guess I've forgotten to take a picture to show, huh? bantering with Ashley (the good kind of bantering--not the kind that gives me gray hairs!) "Cool" Lunch

I usually make Ashley take her lunch three days out of the week (she "gets" to buy on the other two days, even though she doesn't actually eat the food--part of the whole "fit in with the crowd" issue) . I was having a SERIOUSLY hard time getting her to bring her lunch, and it occurred to me one day that if she took "fancier" sandwiches, she might not fight it so much. So ... I started making Chicken Salad and getting various toppings (she likes the jars of roasted peppers, pepperoncinis, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, etc.) as well as buying bolillos or other fancier sandwich breads. That went over well. It went over so well that her friends would ask for a taste, and rave about how yummy the sandwich was. They were actually jealous of Ashley's lunch (yeah! now she won't be the "geek" who brings her lunch; she'll be the girl who brings cool lunches--mission accomplished and then some!) . One of her friends I know rather well, because...

Relaxing ... Refreshing ... Adventure

WARNING: MANY PICTURES!! We never go on day trips, but this week (to take the kids' minds off the fact that Daddy is gone--in the Philippines), I took the kids to Santa Barbara. I made it a surprise (which I don't often do), and we had a relaxing day together. And, of course, I took a gazillion pictures (actually 64). So, after a lot of painstakingly difficult choices, I have narrowed the pictures I will post to "only" about 10. So, family, sit back and enjoy, and friends, skim through them quickly :) The day started with the L-O-N-G ride (2 1/2 hours to be exact), and the proverbial "Are we there yet?" with a little twist: Ashley would ask "Are we halfway there yet?" Are we 3/4 of the way?" etc. You get the picture. They were great in the car until the last 20 minutes or so. We started our time there with a nice little picnic at this really neat park. Here are some pictures: This picture doesn't really do the park justice, but it will giv...
