Happy 'Cause ...

... my sprouts are growing (Yeah!)--so far, so good, but I've got a l-o-n-g way to go before I see blooms and pick veggies and herbs. We'll see if I can break my annual cycle of letting plants die after a few months, lol! ... look what I bought for $50.00 at Costco (thanks, Dad, for alerting me to this huge bargain!) ... this is what I get to see when I pull my car up in the driveway (Thanks, Teena, for making my entry much more cheerful! :) ). I smile every time I drive home from somewhere.

Weekend Recap

Just a quick post to give you all an idea of what life was like this weekend in the Lustre household. Hubby was at a work conference this weekend --oh well :( (he returned this evening) The kids and I went to Balboa Saturday --I was so excited to take pictures there--so picturesque, only to find that I forgot the CF card at home (ring any bells, Teena?!). But we had a lot of fun anyway. Gimme a beach and I'm a happy girl. Sunday I planned to take it easy, and I did--then my cousin called in late afternoon and asked me to babysit--I could not refuse; it was for an important reason. So we did, and the kids had a great time together, as usual, lol! Today was another quiet day, except for one exciting thing (actually it's no big deal, but it is to me!): I taught myself to applique and machine quilt. I am SO excited!! I was on a high all day. It is something I've been wanting to do for quite a while, but I was a little bit confused. So Friday I asked a friend (thanks,

I Know It Sounds Crazy, But ...

... I'm already preparing for Spring. I have been busy planning our landscaping this year--it won't be anything fantastic, believe me! :)--but anything will be an improvement on the current condition of our front and back yards. And, because I'm a self-proclaimed cheapskate, what better way to save money than to plant seeds instead of buying small plants (plus, you generally get a much better selection). So I have my "landscaping vision" (at least for the backyard) for this year, and it includes a "cutting garden" (a bunch of flowers that you can cut and make bouquets with) and a vegetable garden. Now, mind you, I'm BY FAR so not a green thumb, but we'll see. As far as flowers, if all goes well, we'll have: zinnias hollyhocks lavendar baby's breath morning l glory sweet . peas , and this really cool flower I "discovered," called moonflower s Right now, the plants are sitting on a table (in our house, of course!) near our win

Oops.

I know it's been so long since I posted. I guess the holidays overwhelmed me (as in WAY busier than I like to be), and I went on a major cleaning/decorating spree as well as attempting to FINALLY finish the quilt I started in July (think it's about time, lol?!). The kids started back to school on Monday and I have been able to almost catch up (WHEW!!). In case you're interested, the kids and I: cleaned up the back patio which has been a disaster since the kitchen remodel in November put away all Christmas paraphernelia decluttered all the living areas (except one small area I'll take care of next week) put up curtain rods (that took forever because I don't actually know what I'm doing!--I called in my dad for help, but it still took a few hours) did a thorough cleaning and since they went back to school this week, in addition to the regular household tasks, I: planned a layout for our cutting garden and vegetable garden bought curtains for the living room/dini
