Isn't she adorable ...

... when she's sleeping?! Of course, she's adorable many other times as well :)

So I got a serious itch to take "real" pictures yesterday (not just pics of our house). I went out for a while to "play" with the camera, but when I got home the itch was still there, so I played around with the camera settings and got a couple of decent pictures of Ashley sleeping.
Warning: this part of the post is rather "technical" in nature--so skip it if photography is seriously not your thing! I was very thrilled because the room was very dark and I somehow (don't ask me how, lol!) got this really bright picture of her. I really liked the "blown-out" effect because it emphasizes her and not her surroundings. I hardly retouched it in Photoshop--just returned the shirt to it's "black" color (it somehow turned brown in the pic), sharpened it, and reduced the grain in the shirt. Those are the kind of photos I like--the ones I spend very little time editing, lol!
Anyway, this is what's on my desktop now :) Just thought I'd share.

I swear when I saw that I thought I was looking at a pic that you downloaded from an album ocver or something like that. I swear I thought it was something professional like that. That is one amazing shot. Totally cool, very beautiful and should be in a huge frame.

Hi Carmela!!

I just read your email as well.. but since I am on your blog I will respond here :)

When in low lighting situations and you don't want to use the flash..

I bump it up to the highest ISO which is 1600 which will leave your photos grainy. The higher the ISO.. the grainer. But in low light situations and avoiding flash.. that's the only way to do it.

Aperture. Does your f stop go down to a 1.8? That would be best.. the lower the fstop.. the longer the lens open up, allowing more light to come in.

I love the 50 mm 1.8 it is only about 80 bucks.. great lens.. one focal length.. meaning you can't zoom in and out.. but the qualtiy is good.

Shutter speed. Your shutter speed was 1/30th of a second.. when it's low like that.. a tripod is recommended because it will get blurry.. either that or a really steady hand!!!

After all that blabbing.. going manual is the fun way to try things out!!!! You will love it!!!

I love that photo you've captured.. and it really did start that way.. you play around.. and next thing you know, people are asking you to take their pics :)

Keep practicing!!

Oh yes.. i've been out of my mind trying to find some sort of me time.. but I'm battling a cold.. sitting here on my laptop watching tv and reading emails..

Missing You

We've been having internet problems since last Friday evening. It goes on and off sporadically. Someone should be coming today to fix it (and of course it's working perfectly right now, lol!). I don't usually blog in the middle of the day (too much house stuff to do) , but I gotta grab the internet while I can. I'm desperate! It has actually startled me to realize how connected I am to all of you--even you, Ronalyn, and I have never met you. I have so missed reading blogs, commenting on them, and posting. I have really felt disconnected to you all (yeah, I'm a "recovered hick" but I can't erase that expression from my vocabulary--however, I don't say, "y'all." I do draw the line there. Sorry if I'm offending anyone--as in my sister and brother-in-law, but I don't consider you guys hicks.) . So I hope the person who comes to repair the internet issue can perform a miracle so I don't have to miss you anymore :)

A Rare Moment Captured on Film

No, it's not a rare moment that my kids brush their teeth (well, it would be if left up to them!). I walked into the bathroom tonight to see both my kids in the bathroom brushing their teeth ... and this is the rare moment--they actually got along! I had to run and get my camera to document this rare moment of parental bliss. And now I'm sharing it with you. Now isn't your day more complete?!

Just another day ...

Today was a full day. The workers put in our patio door ... sooooooooo excited to have this door!!! The pictures look much less than impressive b/c I didn't take time to play around with them in Photoshop (CSI: Miami is on so I'm glued to the T.V, plus I have a huge load of laundry to fold still). I'm so thrilled to have this door that, good pic or not, I have to share. Like I said, we've never done anything like this before, so every little thing excites me beyond belief :-D They worked on it all day, having to break out a rather large section of the wall, take out a window and door, and move our electrical outlet and porch light. And as you can tell, they have to finish tomorrow. This is the view from the inside: This is the view from the outside: It was strange to have them in my house. But apparently, in deference to my "feminine ears," they decided to refrain from using their Spanish cuss words. That was nice :) Plus our washer is on the blink (has bee...
