Ashley Update

For those of you who have been waiting for an Ashley update, we spoke briefly yesterday morning, and she's doing very well overall. She does miss home, though. She told me she cried three times because she's so homesick. I remember those feelings from when I was young. I just wanted to jump into the phone line and hug her (and bring her back with me!). But she was at the pool with her American cousins when we spoke, and she was very positive and upbeat, which felt good.

I have to say, my heart just melted when I heard her sweet, pixie voice exclaim, "MOMMY!!" as I picked up the phone and said, "Hello." You could totally hear the deep sense of comfort and joy she felt just upon hearing my voice. She sounded like this sweet, innocent little girl instead of the teenager I deal with on a day to day basis :)

She did say that the l-0-n-g letter I gave her (see this post) helped "A LOT." Did I doubt even for one minute that it would help? Um ... I have to say that yes, I did, so it was reassuring to hear it from her. (oh, me of great faith!--not!!)

She also said she has learned A LOT of Italian (I knew she would--she takes after her mommy!), so I'm excited that we'll be able to speak together when she comes back.
Note: My Italian is actually the worst of the languages I speak. I speak like a three-year-old. I kid you not! But I do pick it up quickly, so that helps quite a bit. For those of you who are curious, I speak French and Spanish fluently.

And that's about it! Our conversations are brief for obvious reasons ;)

Oh, how is Mommy doing? Mommy is having a wonderful time in "Denial Land." Mommy tries to not think about it. And when Mommy starts to miss her, she quickly fixates her thoughts on something more pleasant, like the dishes that need doing, or the gunk that needs to be cleaned from the refrigerater shelves ... you know, nice stuff like that. So, I'm doing fine :-D

Wow Carmella, I learn more and more about you as you blog. Quite the linguist!! I'm jealous of people who can do that. Growing up in the midwest we only had English - southern English - ya'll know what I talkin' 'bout!!

Oh Carmela, I love to hear your talk about other languages. Why in the world did we not have an apartment together in France? That would have been sooooo great. And you know what?? I miss Ashley too.

Missing You

We've been having internet problems since last Friday evening. It goes on and off sporadically. Someone should be coming today to fix it (and of course it's working perfectly right now, lol!). I don't usually blog in the middle of the day (too much house stuff to do) , but I gotta grab the internet while I can. I'm desperate! It has actually startled me to realize how connected I am to all of you--even you, Ronalyn, and I have never met you. I have so missed reading blogs, commenting on them, and posting. I have really felt disconnected to you all (yeah, I'm a "recovered hick" but I can't erase that expression from my vocabulary--however, I don't say, "y'all." I do draw the line there. Sorry if I'm offending anyone--as in my sister and brother-in-law, but I don't consider you guys hicks.) . So I hope the person who comes to repair the internet issue can perform a miracle so I don't have to miss you anymore :)

Feb Year In Review Layouts

Just a quick post tonight. It dawned on me a few days ago that I'm already behind in my "Year . In . Review" layouts, so I put February's together. Believe it or not, for such a simple concept, these layouts took about three hours combined. I couldn't believe it! Anyway, these photos depict the highlights of February. Maybe tomorrow I'll do March :) (I wonder how many hours that will take?!) Just in case you're wondering, Carlos is still sick--no fever, just a sore throat now. Hopefully he'll go back to school on Tuesday ('cause I need some "me" time before I turn into a monster, lol!). 'Cause as you all know, life is all about me, right ;) Happy Monday, y'all!

Nehemiah: Sheep Gate (Symbolism)

hubpages.com http://www.prayfordetroit.com/ As I mentioned in my Nehemiah  post, God has nudged me this summer to study Nehemiah in depth because He has some things He wants to show me.  I am just starting Chapter 5, and I must say it is so exciting and interesting. I have to admit, though, that when I got to Chapter 3, it just looked like one of those boring chapters: it gave all the boring details about each section of the wall of Jerusalem that was being rebuilt, and gave countless names of the people who rebuilt each section.  I was going to skip it and move on to Chapter 4 when I felt the Lord nudge me to look deeper--that there was something here that He wanted to show me.   So I dutifully sought the Lord (and a research book, and the internet!) , and was ASTOUNDED at the incredible layers of symbolism in the names of the gates!  It has turned out to be my favorite chapter so far.  :)  God is incredibly amazing, huh?   The big pi...
